Well I think I have just about tried all I need to try on my new phone. Firstly, yes I still really like it (phew!)
I have tried loads of software on it and have come the conclusion that I was mistaken about my Astraware games being compatible, there is some weird lack of left action button thing going on that whilst manageable in Cubis means I can’t play my favourite Bejewelled. Still Astraware do not say WM6 will work, I bet they’re working on it though (hopefully).
I’ve had some pleasant surprises. Facade from SBSH works well giving extra functionality on the home screen (when you have tired of the default Vodafone ribbon theme). The same company produces the PIM software Papyrus which again works perfectly. I have loaded on Shozu so I can upload pics to my other blogs, again it works perfectly. Fizz Traveller is ideal for travellers who need extra information, like weather, time zones etc and has a neat clockface. Of course I have Phatware’s Phatnotes for smartphone. I have used this note taker for years now on almost every Palm, Windows CE and Pocket PC PDA I have owned.
A new one for me is Yahoo’s GO! Literally it is all your Yahoo stuff on the go: news, email and a mapping function similar to Windows Live or Google Maps. It eats data but my plan is unlimited(ish).
Notable flops so far (apart from Bejewelled) have been TCMP player and Simply Sudoku which rotated the screen over to one side. (Facade has a screen orientation setting, so it was easy to get back to normal).
I have used the phone for a few calls, the quality was very good and not muffled like the MDA. Data speeds have been quite high, I can’t say I’ve noticed any real slowness at all, even on Google Maps.
So the future looks bright for the Treo (until the next gizmo comes along that is).
