As the sun was shining this afternoon, I went for a walk in our local wood to see the bluebells. I took my Canon A470 and managed to forget the tripod again. I quite like the few pictures I got in macro and supermacro mode, even though it was quite windy.

Stuck for something to do and it being such a lovely day, we went for a walk around Willen Lake. At last a chance to use some of the cheap cameras that I’ve added to my colllection over the winter. I set off with a bag full of cameras including my Cosmic Symbol (£5), Nikon [...]

Boy this has come round quick again. We have just got back from our day out at the NEC. The crowds were out in force, but as we arrived a bit later than usual, we missed the queues (before 9am apparently and the show doesn’t open till 10). Anyway we barged our way through as [...]

Just playing with the super macro mode on my compact camera (Canon A470) just to see how close I can get with it. I would really like to do some macro shots of flowers, but I guess that will have to wait ’til spring. This is my youngest’s eye, handheld 1/50 f3.
Edit: The original, straight [...]
The Thaw Begins

Finally, I managed to get outside for a walk without freezing to death. I took a camera but only managed to remember to use it on the way back (when I was begining to feel the cold and started shivering…. that’s my excuse for camera shake, and I’m sticking to it) I put 2 pictures [...]
JPG Magazine – Bye For Now?

Sorry to see that JPG Magazine seems to be on the verge of disappearing. It’s a great shame, but with first hand knowledge of how expensive it is to produce magazines, I can see that online galleries like Flickr will always win out. Back issues are available to look at on the site (for the [...]

It’s one of those things that I always seem to just muddle through. Yes, loading an M Leica can be a tricky business especially with cold hands or if you are in a hurry. Rest easy! The lovely Nobby Clark (Head Technical Boffin) at Leica Camera UK has sent me a “How To” sheet, which [...]

Hot news if you are interested in a posh camera for Christmas. Leica Camera UK are selling off a stock of their Leica C-Lux 2 compact cameras direct to the public for only £200, an excellent price (they were over £400), but Leica are also throwing in the beautiful leather Leica case and strap [...]
Whingeing Pays Off!

Yes, you may remember that yesterday I was whingeing about not having a zoom on the Ricoh GR Digital and how that lack was “stifleing my creativity maaaaan!” (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!) Anyway, I had to buy a loaf of bread this morning so I popped into my local Sainsburys. They [...]
Bletchley Park – MayDay MayDay!

The weather was absolutely gorgeous for a walk around Bletchley Park, home of the Enigma Machine. During the second world war, code breakers worked here furiously, decoding missives sent by the German forces. According to most sources, the efforts made at Bletchley Park shortened the war and saved many allied lives.
Strange choice for a [...]
